Daniela Bandera, Head of ‘LE Imprenditrici’ at Confindustria Brescia and CEO of Nomesis, in a recent speech he gave on 24 October 2024 in the Parliamentary Groups’ Chamber, organised by the Libellula Foundation, emphasises the urgent need to establish a security framework within organisations.
Violence and harassment not only harm individuals, but also undermine productivity, workplace relationships and the company’s reputation itself. It is essential to rethink the role of women in the workplace, ensuring a safe and respectful environment that fosters gender equality and actively promotes opportunities for women.
In an ever-changing economic landscape, the role of women in business is becoming increasingly central. However, challenges relating to inclusion and safety continue to undermine both gender equality and the advancement of women. As demonstrated by recent Istat data, which reveals that around 1 million women have experienced harassment at work, the need for more inclusive companies – committed to closing the gender pay gap and supporting training and inclusion policies – has also been highlighted.
Companies must adopt a vision of social responsibility that goes beyond profit. They must become places that foster inclusion and celebrate diversity, where company policies support victims of violence and staff training is a priority.
Concrete measures must be put in place to promote a cultural shift. Businesses have a responsibility to lead the way in this process, but it is essential that everyone works together to create a better working environment.
We can work together to create a professional environment in which every woman feels valued and secure, thereby contributing to genuine progress towards gender equality and the promotion of women’s roles in the workplace. Investing in safety and inclusion is not only an ethical choice, but is also fundamental to collective progress.
